Read this review of Stephen Pennell's Gangsters, Geezers and Mods, a working class Birmingham tale
It’s rare for a Brummie to find themselves and their surroundings immortalised through modern literature, but Pennell’s debut novel does just that and this review by local historian, Carl Chinn, goes a long way to justifying the hype that surrounded its release three years ago.
I see this review as a friendly recommendation, from Brummie to Brummie. ‘I can’t believe it’s set in Aston!’ I pondered whilst reading. I hope this article serves as both a conversation starter amongst friends and an incentive to read the full novel, which is available here and definitely worth a dive into.
