Book to see Casisdead

7:30-11pm, Wednesday 21st February
XOYO, Lower Trinity Street, Deritend, B9 4AG

Over the last ten years, Casisdead has built a huge cult following, been lauded by the likes of Skepta, Giggs and A$AP Rocky and is now regarded as one of the UK’s most inventive lyricists.

His debut album, Famous Last Words arrived last year to critical acclaim, earning him his first Brit Award nomination - much to his bemusement

Truly in a lane of his own and reaching newfound heights in his career, we highly recommend catching him live while he’s in town.

At the dawn of artificial intelligence the world is at a turning point, on the verge of implosion. Famous Last Words is the soundtrack to that – one last beautiful bad dream.

Mad Visvals is important to Birmingham; whenever anything big happens culturally, he’s usually there.

Whether it's an iconic event for a local act or the arrival of worldwide talents for one night only, MV is most likely documenting it, allowing us to relive the night long after the highs of the moment have worn off. Check out his work, including some killer portraits, below!

John Akomfrah in conversation with Tina Campt, Ekow Eshun, Saidiya Hartman

This discussion, hosted by writer and broadcaster Ekow Eshun, was recorded in June 2020 and examined the legacy of John Akomfrah's early films, such as Signs of Empire and Handsworth Songs, in the context of the then ongoing Black Lives Matter protests, destruction of colonial monuments and the structures of institutional racism.

I found this a very educational and inspiring watch; continuing these conversations after movements leave the mainstream media cycle is crucial, so I encourage you to watch this and share with your friends and family.
