Visit an artist exhibition as part of Birmingham Open Studios
23rd September - 1st October (select exhibition for specific date and time)
View map of exhibition locations here
The concept is simple: Birmingham Open Studios allows artists to display their craft from their homes or working studios, meaning they do not have to pay high commission rates to galleries on sales, instead keeping the earnings themselves.
The public can then view all of the artists’ work for free in the artist’s creative environment, giving them an insight into their lives and creative processes.
We’ve got our eye on visits to Sundragon, Sadie Kaye and Keeley Traae Design but be sure to pick up or download a free guidebook and check out the full array of creatives exhibiting.

With claws reminiscent of a tarantula's legs and a sky that promises trouble, this looks like something straight out of a horror film.
A very cinematic shot by Edwin, although I must say, it puts me off riding anything at the Digbeth funfair even more!

Watch this documentary detailing the making of a The Streets mixtape
The Streets are arguably one of Birmingham’s greatest musical exports and after a 6 year hiatus, Mike Skinner brought the project back in 2017. A string of singles were followed up by the first ever The Streets mixtape, None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive in 2020.
This documentary was released to explore the making of the project via interviews with collaborators and footage of the recording process.
Both the tape and video highlight the importance of collaboration and community, whilst promoting some of the generation that followed Mike out of Brum amongst an array of international talent.
A great insight into the complex nature of established recording artists and the quirky personality Mike himself possesses.
