Visit The Migrant Festival at Ikon Gallery
11am - 5pm, 17th August - 3rd September
1 Brindley Place, B1 2HS
Now entering its fifth year, The Migrant Festival is a celebration of Birmingham as a city of migration, sanctuary and refuge.
This time around, Birmingham based photographers Vanley Burke, Ayesha Jones and Maryam Wahid are collaborating with inner-city communities to share their stories of migration, with all three artists exhibiting their projects in town.
Family workshops, artist talks and music events by Celebrating Sanctuary Birmingham are part of the programme too, making this a unique free outing for all the family to experience. See the full schedule below.

I’m reminded of an ’80s video game; some warped, giant version of Tetris, perhaps!

Listen to A Night At The Flicks: The Birmingham Compilation
For a short period in the mid ‘80s, The Argent Centre in the Jewellery Quarter housed Flick International Recording Studios, famed for use by well known clients Creation Records, Napalm Death and Felt.
This LP, featuring 16 different bands, was recorded in those cellar walls but the original vinyl pressings were damaged by flood water, leaving only around 300 copies in tact!
Thankfully, we now live in a world where almost everything is available online and although the prestige of owning a physical copy is still a rarity, this piece of local history is now on Youtube for us all to enjoy. Reply to this email and let us know your favourite track.
