Visit Voce Books in Digbeth
Tuesday - Saturday 11am - 7pm
54 - 57 Allison Street, B5 5TH
Digbeth’s new independent bookshop boasts a wide variety of page turners. With a heavy focus on independent publishers, this cosy space stocks fiction, translations, poetry, the most interesting titles on culture and politics, magazines, zines & a little bit of art.
Joe Lycett enjoyed a visit in December and it’s at the top of our list for this weekend. Having only opened in November, there's definitely some new gems in here that we think you should go and discover for yourself!

Birmingham skateboarding in the ‘80s and ‘90s, shared by Tom Clarke.
It's interesting to see which spots are still favourites with Brummie skaters today, and which ones no longer exist. There’s some great brutalist architecture on show in the full set too!

Watch the Bull Ring Shopping Centre promotional film from 1965
My memories of the Bull Ring are only of the version that stands in town today, so I found this video a charming watch.
It demonstrates the planning that was needed and the process of building the shopping centre, as well as revealing all its modern (for the that era, anyway!) features and attractions once it was built.
I was amused by the service provided in the car parks, where an attendant parks your car for you and returns it back once you’ve finished shopping. Imagine that today! Chaos. A far cry from the automated systems and useless apps that are now in place.
